I Am But A Woman
Alice J. Pomeroy © 2009
You’ve heard the tales of conquest
The tales of being now free,
You might have even taken part
In securing equality.
A woman can do anything
That’s what we’ve all been taught,
But sometimes we get confused
And in this trap we’re caught.
You see were not supposed to cry
And we’re not supposed to weep,
And yet we carry such a load
We cannot fall asleep.
A woman is exceptional
Our minds just never rest,
We can handle anything
And past life’s daily tests.
There also is this need
To be free from everything,
To run barefoot in the park
And let our laughter ring.
How rare it is indeed
To let it all hang out,
To giggle and sing and dance
And maybe even shout.
Whenever I feel emotional
Where life makes no sense to me,
I find a quiet secret place
That’s where my God will be.
He will listen to my tale
And listen to my story,
He will cover me with His love
And give to me His glory.
God will give me confidence
So I can yell Shazam!
I am but a woman
But oh what a woman I am.
