You know I hear a lot about personal problems that people go through. I hear about children, addictions, finances, jobs, lack of jobs, poverty, marriages, loneliness, sadness, death, and even taxes.
We all have things, emotional or physical, that become our focus. Our Goliath.
Goliath was a Philistine, a giant, an enemy, a warrior, a huge problem for the army of King Saul. Goliath challenged Saul to send one of his warriors to fight him to put an end to the war. David, a young, skinny boy, took the challenge. You know the story, with God on his side, David knew he couldn't lose. The boy took a stone and his sling and hit Goliath in the head and knocked him down and out. Then David took Goliath's own sword and cut off Goliath's head. With God, he defeated the enemy. He was rewarded for his efforts, but gave God the glory.
Well, you might say, that's a nice story, but how does this help me when my life is such a mess. What is your Goliath? What is your enemy? Satan loves to mess us up. Satan loves to cause is heartaches. Satan loves to make us hurt. Satan uses things or people or situations to defeat us.
I have good news. Anything that becomes your Goliath, bigger than you can get over, under, around, or through, God can and will overcome.
If you stand on the word, all the enemies of your spirit will be defeated. God sent Jesus to save us. Through His blood we are washed clean. There is power in the blood. Try pleading the blood over your problems. There is power in the name of Jesus. Try shouting the names of Jesus at your Goliath. Talk to God. He's got a plan. Let's look at one Goliath. Loneliness.
What stone can you use to defeat the Goliath of loneliness? Jesus said He will never leave you nor forsake you. You can talk to Him all the time. It's not the same, you say, as a human to a human, but when you talk to Him, and tell Him you are lonely, I believe He will send you a friend. Did you ever think that by reaching out to someone, that loneliness will go away?
Goliath was defeated because he stood on his own, depended on himself, and convinced no one could harm him. David stood on God and He could not be defeated even though he was little and alone.
We are in a war. We have enemies all around us. We have a Goliath in our path. But listen to what the word says, Greater is He (Jesus) that is in us, than he (Satan, Goliath, Troubles, Problems, etc.) that is in the world.
Can anybody say AMEN?
